deserted trails mountain biking in wales

Forest Freeride is based on a small hill farm nestled in a forest at the northern tip of the Cambrian mountains. Started in 2007, our aim has always been to offer the highest quality mountain bike coaching and guiding possible in a most memorable location. It's a stress-free environment so lends itself to not only learning but also unwinding, perhaps that's why a lot of people use our courses and trips as a good excuse for a holiday or get-away break.

All our coaching is carried out by MBLA qualified instructors. They also know the area like the back of their hand, so if you're here on a Wilderness ride you can be assured of the best possible riding experience. We're firm believers that mountain biking should be enjoyable and fun, that belief is upheld throughout everything we do‚ the result is a laid-back, relaxed style of coaching that greatly benefits learning. At the end of your course you'll be given a set of course notes and feedback about your own riding‚ giving you a valuable training tool for the future.

We have our own bunkhouse on-site solely for the use of those riding with us. We offer more than just skills training - you can find more details on the ACCOMMODATION page.

The forest and mountains provide a stunning back-drop to our main purpose built training areas, they also act as the gateway to some of the best riding in the UK. In most cases you'll be 'off road' right from the very start of your Wilderness ride‚ some of our routes contain less than 10% tarmac! If you look at this map - particularly the area between Machynlleth and Llandovery - you will notice two things.

Data Wales map

Firstly it's a very big area and secondly there isn't much habitation within it. This massive expanse of 'green desert' plays host to our bikepacking trips. It's an area with its own unique character, it's much less populated than Snowdonia or the Brecon Beacons and doesn't attract the same hordes of day trippers‚ you really will experience what remains of 'wild Wales'.

If you haven't already looked at the COACHING and GUIDING & TRIPS pages then please do. Hopefully you'll see that we try to offer much more than a 'one size fits all' skills course. We're very aware that everyone is an individual and often people ride for very different reasons. If you'd like to take your riding in a different direction or have an idea for something that isn't listed, get in touch and we'll do our best to accommodate you.

There are dozens of mountain bike training course providers throughout the UK for you to choose from‚ so, here's a few reasons why you might choose Forest Freeride:

Purpose built training areas means no wasted time riding between sections.
One to one tuition at no extra cost.
Highly experienced MBLA instructors.
On-site bunkhouse for the exclusive use of our customers.
We'll happily loan you a bike and equipment free of charge.
Breathtaking, secluded location with fantastic riding straight from the door.
Complimentary course notes for everyone attending a skills course.

We don't expect you to just take our word for it though:

Stuart, many thanks for an excellent course. We all came away feeling that we had gained tremendously. Katie and I rode MBR at Coed Y Brenin on Monday and Katie said it was the best she had ever seen me ride.

Rob and me would just like to thank you for a great 2 days. The more we think about the simplicity of what we learnt, the more we can see how much better it's going to make us as we get more proficient at its execution.
Delwyn Jones

Just a quick note to thank you for the lesson.
It's really starting to pay off. Looking further ahead makes everything seem slower and allows me to prepare for obstacles which has made me a lot faster. I'm still working on my cornering which is improving with every ride thanks to your lesson. I am leaning the bike further than I would normally feel comfortable with and it's not washing away so all good. Not quite mastered it but getting better. I'm finding that there's a much bigger gap between me and my friends than before meaning I'm having to wait for a bit longer but I don't mind the extra rest! On another note; you identified that my feet weren't quite level, which I've been making a conscious effort to correct. It has made me feel much more stable but perhaps even better is the fact that my back is not getting anywhere near as sore during descending! It's making my rides even more enjoyable, so I'm very grateful for that.
